Their melding of rockabilly tools and <strong>Motorhead<\/strong> ferocity is as revved up and essential as you&#8217;ll ever need. A classic in the making.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"The Cindy Sisters\" src=\"http:\/\/2.dougkubert.com\/media\/best2012\/CindySisters.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><br \/>\n<strong>Cindy Sisters<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0<em>She&#8217;s Burning Inside<\/em> 7&#8243; (Hozac)<br \/>\nA blissful fuzz trance that starts in a realm \u00a0founded by <strong>Spacemen 3<\/strong> or<strong> Loop<\/strong> and pushes into the gnarled swagger of contemporary geniuses <strong>Sex Church<\/strong>, the droning pair of tracks on this debut release fully satisfy the urge to detach and drop out.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"The Coffin Pricks\" src=\"http:\/\/2.dougkubert.com\/media\/best2012\/CoffinPricks.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><br \/>\n<strong>Coffin Pricks<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0<em>Group Home Haircut<\/em> 7&#8243; (Stationary Heart)<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s amazing how Chris Thomson pops up every few years in a new band with a loosely similar sound built around his distinctive, snotty snarl. Fans of <strong>Circus Lupus, Monorchid, Skull Kontrol<\/strong>, and <strong>Red Eyed Legends<\/strong> take note.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Crimson Scarlet\" src=\"http:\/\/2.dougkubert.com\/media\/best2012\/CrimsonScarlet.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><br \/>\nCrimson Scarlet<\/strong> &#8211; <em>Sanctuary<\/em> 7&#8243; (Cool Summer Records)<br \/>\nYou may not think of Santa Barbara as a death rock mecca, but here&#8217;s a proof of a killer group based there that&#8217;s in league with some of the best goth-tinged punk ever committed to vinyl. <a href=\"http:\/\/2.dougkubert.com\/blog\/?p=1391\">Read more here<\/a> and snatch up this gem on deep maroon wax if your record collection includes <strong>Siouxsie &amp; The Banshees, 45 Grave, The Phantom Limbs<\/strong> or <strong>The Vanishing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Double Negative\" src=\"http:\/\/2.dougkubert.com\/media\/best2012\/DoubleNegative.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><br \/>\nDouble Negative<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0<em>Hits<\/em> 7&#8243; (Sorry State)<br \/>\nThis North Carolina HC machine has a great track record of slashing hardcore records in sharp packaging. This 3-punch 7&#8243; positively continues this trend.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: 1px solid black;\" title=\"GG King\" src=\"http:\/\/2.dougkubert.com\/media\/best2012\/GGKing.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><br \/>\n<strong>GG King<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0<em>Joyless Masturbation<\/em> 7&#8243; (Total Punk)<br \/>\nOne of the catchiest tunes of 2012, guaranteed to rattle around in your head seconds after dropping the needle on the record, is the stomper &#8220;Joyless Masturbation&#8221; by ex-<strong>Carbonas<\/strong>\u2019 GG King. A speedy B-side rounds out the best punk 45 of 2012. Cheap, nasty, and totally essential.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Sex Church\" src=\"http:\/\/2.dougkubert.com\/media\/best2012\/SexChurch.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><br \/>\n<strong>Sex Church<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0<em>Sonambulist<\/em> 12&#8243; EP (Instant Pleasure\/Psychic Handshake)<br \/>\nLast year&#8217;s debut LP from this Vancouver riff-churn team,<em> Growing Over, <\/em>was barely nudged out of NFZ\u2019s top 10 LPs list in 2011, but this release firmly plants them at the top of the pile along side their epic <em>Dead End<\/em> 7&#8243; from 2009. Dense, warped and weirdly narcotic, this 3-song 12&#8243; reestablishes Sex Church as one of the best bands going.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Spray Paint\" src=\"http:\/\/2.dougkubert.com\/media\/best2012\/SprayPaint.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><br \/>\n<strong>Spray Paint<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0<em>Spray Paint<\/em> 7&#8243; &#8211; (S.S. Records)<br \/>\nThe first of a pair of 7-inches released in 2012, Spray Paint&#8217;s vinyl debut is a jagged 3-song stab of postpunk that takes the best elements of <strong>A Frames <\/strong>severity and focus, and pumps a sick dose of noisy ruckus ala no-wave greats <strong>Lake of Dracula<\/strong>. &#8220;Psychic Doug&#8221; is my jam.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"TV Ghost\" src=\"http:\/\/2.dougkubert.com\/media\/best2012\/TVGhost.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><br \/>\nTV Ghost<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0<em>Phantasm<\/em> 7&#8243; (Sweet Rot)<br \/>\nFurther demonstrating the superior taste of the Vancouver Sweet Rot label, the latest 7&#8243; from Indiana&#8217;s TV Ghost ranks right up there along side the band&#8217;s best material from their In The Red LPs. Two tracks of on-edge, sinister echo-laden darkwave punk with enough texture and mystery to warrant many spins on the turntable.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Up The Academy\" src=\"http:\/\/2.dougkubert.com\/media\/best2012\/UpTheAcademy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><br \/>\nUp the Academy<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0<em>Gimme Gimme<\/em> 7&#8243; (Replay Records)<br \/>\nTheir track on the <em>Cheap Beer<\/em> compilation from 2011 set the high expectations that their debut \u00a07&#8243; delivers with a 2-song punch of earnest punk and righteously thick riffs.
